Foreword
JAMES EHRLICH
I met Joshua Ngoma in Helsinki, Finland in 2019 when I presented a keynote for the Singularity University Nordic conference on the topic of regenerative and resilient, self-reliant village developments. What I came to understand about Joshua’s background is inspiring: how he came to build a successful career and create a beautiful family life, travelling the world in constant pursuit of indigenous wisdom that he relates back to his rich cultural experiences in Africa, and the ways in which he applies these experiences and principles as a role model to improve the lives of others. Joshua’s profound commitment to educating young Africans on organic and regenerative agricultural practices, as well as teaching the financial feasibility of sustainable farming as a livelihood, attained my instant respect and established our lifelong friendship.

In It’s Time for Africa, Joshua paints an immense horizon across a diverse continent through the epochs of time, spanning from the cradle of our species’ origins, through the evolution of humanity’s earliest successful civilisations. This book also posits a fascinating and poignant perspective on imagining what our modern world would be like if continental Africa had gone a different course from being overcome byits early colonial domination. Taking us on a journey towards economic empowerment and cultural renaissance that allows us to consider an alternate timeline of history, where the scales of immense wealth and prosperity tipped in favour of Africa and its people.
The narrative weaves a tapestry of the past and present, of a continent so often misunderstood and purposefully divided, conquered, and depleted to literally disable generations from standing on their own. Remarkably, Joshua captivates us with an optimistic vision of a bright future of hope and capability, based on the unified African spirit, inspired by collective ingenuity.
It’s a fact that every human on planet Earth has Africa’s story embedded within them. Africa is literally coded in our DNA, with overwhelming scientific evidence debunking any lingering notions of racial hierarchy, proving that human ancestry and diversity are intrinsically linked.
Joshua does not wax over the painful history of Africa. Marred by exploitation and stereotypes, with the scars of the transatlantic slave trade and abject theft of resources by colonial powers still reverberating across the continent’s socio-economic and ecological landscape. Rather, this book places a mirror on our global consciousness, reflecting the impact of colonial wealth predicated on the kidnapping of human beings from their homelands for seemingly eternal subjugation, coupled with the unmitigated stealing of natural resources that literally lined the pockets and crowns with Africa’s precious soul. Yet again, Joshua’s tone rises above the adversities of past and present to boldly envision an emergent Africa that reclaims its rich cultural heritage, guiding us toward a positive and proactive future for the whole continent to aspire to.
This book is methodical in offering up each chapter as a stepping stone in understanding the intricate layers that is African history and culture, bringing us through to a place where innovative solutions are being brought forward for the benefit of regenerative and sustainable communities. Joshua captures the real essence of Africa, which lies in its people – vibrant, diverse, and resilient, poised to rewrite their destiny.
Delving into critical areas such as leadership, education, technology, and environmental stewardship, drawing parallels with other nations’ success stories, this book provides a road map for how African nations can navigate their unique paths towards equitable prosperity.
From his very real and profound personal experiences, Joshua shares his pivotal role in the shaping of young minds to learn from his successful entrepreneurial background. Embodying initiatives like those embarked upon by the Enterprising Africa Regional Network (Pty) Ltd (EARN). These partnerships are not mere theoretical concepts; they are practical, actionable strategies that can propel Africa towards a brighter future.
In essence, this book is a journey – a journey through Africa’s past hardships, its present challenges, and its potential for a remarkable future. It’s an invitation to view Africa not as a continent defined by its problems but as a land of endless possibilities.
As you turn each page, I invite you to join in this journey of discovery, reflection, and, ultimately, transformation.
